Selected by the town of Algonquin, Illinois to be part of its 2007/8 public art program, Reeds was installed outside the Village Hall of Algonquin, Illinois for one year. The installation was one part of a greater idea about artificial landscapes, user interaction and seasonal changes.  From a distance, people are drawn to the sight of rustling artificial “reeds” as they sway back and forth in the wind. Then as they approach, the sound of the hollow “reeds” tapping against each other creates another layer of experience. At night, the “reeds” glow in an otherwise dark landscape. Throughout the whole experience, visitors are encouraged to engage, experience and manipulate Reeds.

Materials: Plastic piping, perforated steel sheet, and solar lighting.
